Buena Vista biomass power plant to be sold at auction

The assets of the 18 MW Buena Vista Biomass Power plant are set to be sold at auction in July, according to information released by Mass Companies. The deadline for offers is July 19.

Information released by Maas Companies notes that biomass plants have in recent years assisted the state of California with reducing emissions from uncontrolled forestry and agriculture fires while providing renewable energy. On May 10, California Gov. Jerry Brown issued an executive order to look at long-term use of small biomass generators as a way to address the amount of record-breaking forest fires. The order also directs the California Public Utilities Commission to review and update its procurement programs for small bioenergy renewable generators.

According to Mass Companies, the plant is capable of supplying up to 16,000 homes with power and features a circulating fluidized bed boiler. The facility is located on 40-plus acres near Ione, California, with a long-term land lease. The plant was repowered in 2012 to accept waste wood. Maas Companies said the plant is currently idle and will be sold as an entirety during a sealed bid auction process. Additional information is available on the Maas Companies website
