The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) data for December, reporting that more than 1.21 billion RINs were generated during the month, bringing the full-year 2015 total to nearly 17.89 billion.

Nearly 15.07 million D3 cellulosic RINs were generated in December, bringing the net total for the year to 127.39 million. Approximately 2.18 million RINs were generated for cellulosic ethanol last year, with 72.77 million generated for renewable compressed natural gas and 53.16 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas. Approximately 105.09 million D3 RINs were generated domestically, with 23.03 million generated by importers.

No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in December. The net total for the year was 247,785, all of which were generated for cellulosic heating oil by importers.

Nearly 16.76 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in December, bringing the net total for 2015 to 146.84 million. Nearly 113.79 million D5 RINs were generated for ethanol, with 23.99 million generated for naptha, 847,149 generated for heating oil, 8.47 million generated for nonester renewable diesel and 5,022 generated for renewable compressed natural gas. Approximately 58.14 million D5 RINs were generated domestically, with 88.95 million generated by importers.

More than 1.31 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in December, bringing the net total for the year to 14.82 billion. The majority, 14.38 billion, were generated for ethanol, with 111.68 million generated for biodiesel, and 340.9 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. Approximately 14.37 billion D6 RINs were generated domestically, with 117 million generated by importers and 340.9 million generated by foreign entities.

More than 245.79 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in December, bringing the net total for the year to 2.78 billion. Most, 2.26 billion, were generated for biodiesel, with 522.49 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. More than 2.17 billion D4 RINs were generated domestically, with 380.83 million generated for importers and 230.8 million generated by foreign entities.

The EPA currently estimates 676.5 million RINs 2015 RINs have been retired, with 755.21 million locked and available and 16.46 billion unlocked and available.
