The U.S. EPA has published renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for February, reporting that nearly 1.25 billion RINs were generated during the month, including nearly 7.93 million cellulosic RINs.

EPA data indicates 7.93 D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in February, bringing the total for the first two months of the year to 12 million. A 76,942 error correction brings the net total for D3 RINs to 11.93 million. According to the EPA, 191,863 D3 RINs have been generated for ethanol so far this year, with 5.12 million generated for renewable compressed natural gas and 6.7 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas. All 12 million D3 RINs have been generated by domestic producers. No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs have been generated so far this year.

Nearly 4.31 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in February, bringing the year-to-date total to 9.66 million. A 9,279 error correction has been made, bringing the net total for D5 RINs to 9.65 million. More than 4.02 million D5 RINs were generated for ethanol, with 4.54 generated for naptha, 148,582 generated for heating oil, 946,473 generated for nonester renewable diesel, and 189 generated for renewable compressed natural gas. All 9.66 million D5 RINs were generated by domestic producers.

More than 1.1 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in February. The total for the first two months of the year was 2.33 million, with an error correction of 211,606 RINs. The majority, 2.27 billion were generated for ethanol, with 17,789 generated for biodiesel, and 61.76 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. According to the EPA, 2.27 billion D5 RINs were generated by domestic producers, with 455,681 generated by importers and 61.76 million generated by foreign producers.

Approximately 136.64 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in February, bringing the total for the first two months of the year to 279.6 million. A 51,041 error correction brings the net total to 279.55 million. Most, 198.1 million, were generated for biodiesel, with 81.49 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. EPA data shows 229.29 million D4 RINs were generate by domestic producers, with 20.48 million generated by importers and 29.83 million generated by foreign producers.

The EPA estimates 2.62 billion RINs have been generated so far this year, with 28.46 million of those RINs retired. An estimated 83.13 million RINs are locked and available, with 2.51 billion unlocked and available.
