On Jan. 5, Massachusetts-based Owl Power Co. rolled out its trademarked Vegawatt cogenerator, which burns a restaurant's waste vegetable oil to generate electricity and preheat water. Wisconsin program funds biomass boiler project

Focus on Energy's Renewable Energy Program in Wisconsin has provided financial assistance and incentives to almost 50 biomass-related projects. Recently, it awarded a grant to Action Floor Systems LLC, a manufacturer and distributor of sport facility wood floors, to replace the company's natural gas-fired boiler and 50-year-old wood-fired boiler with a wood biomass boiler.READ MORE

Colorado ACRE awards grants to biomass projects

The Colorado Agricultural Value Added Development Board has awarded $250,000 in Advancing Colorado's Renewable Energy grants to five organizations for biomass-related projects. Projects include a study of anaerobic digestion and biogas production feedstocks, designing a biomass briquetting machine, and studying the chemical composition of syngas.READ MORE

Laidlaw to convert pulp mill into biomass power plant

Laidlaw Energy Group Inc., through its affiliate, Laidlaw Berlin Biopower LLC, announced Jan. 5 that it has completed an acquisition to develop a 66-megawatt biomass power plant in Berlin, N.H., over the next two years. The power plant will operate on approximately 700,000 tons of wood biomass.READ MORE
