Helius Energy secures biomass plant location

United Kingdom-based Helius Energy PLC has announced the signing of an option to lease agreement for an 18-acre site located within Avonmouth Dock along Great Britain's Bristol Channel, which may be the future location of a proposed 100-megawatt biomass power plant.
According to the agreement, the lease from First Corporate Shipping Ltd. is exercisable within 48 months, starting Oct. 10, for the construction and operation of the biomass facility in addition to an option to lease an area for a construction compound.
Helius Energy indicated it plans to submit an application under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 for development of the project, and will enter into a statutory consultation process with relevant authorities and conservation bodies.
On Sept. 26, Helius Energy announced RWE Innogy had acquired 100 percent of the development and operation rights to Helius Energy PLC's 65-megawatt biomass power plant which will be built in North East Lincolnshire, U.K. (Read RWE Innogy announces biomass, biogas projects.)
The power station, which received building consent from U.K. Energy Minister Malcom Wicks on June 30, will be designed to run on wood residuals and forest biomass.
