The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for July, reporting more than 1.67 billion RINs were generated during the month, including nearly 20.36 million cellulosic RINs.

More than 20.36 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in July, bringing the net total for the first seven months of the year to 115.07 million. So far this year, 4.34 million D3 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 69.19 million generated for renewable compressed natural gas and 41.57 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas. Nearly 100.74 million D3 RINs have been generated domestically so far this year, with 14.36 million generated by importers.

No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in July. Only a net total of 680,418 D7 RINs have been generated so far this year, all in June for cellulosic heating oil by importers.

More than 5.31 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in July, bringing the net total for the first seven months of the year to 57.26 million. Nearly 34.26 million D5 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 17.18 million generated for naptha, 1.04 million generated for heating oil, 4.86 million generated for nonester renewable diesel, and 11,985 generated for compressed natural gas. More than 38.07 million D5 RINs were generated domestically, with 19.28 million generated by importers.

More than 1.27 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in July, bringing the net total for the first seven months of the year to 8.67 billion. Most, 8.55 billion, were generated for ethanol, with 141.4 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. So far this year 8.54 billion D5 RINs have been generated domestically, with 7.11 million generated by importers and 141.4 million generated by foreign entities.

Nearly 371.7 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in July, bringing the net total for the first seven months of the year to 2.09 billion. The majority, 1.67 billion, were generated for biodiesel, with 434.05 million generated for nonester renewable diesel and 1.55 million generated for renewable jet fuel. So far this year, 1.46 billion D4 RINs have been generated domestically, with 434.69 million generated by importers and 205.14 million generated by foreign entities.

As of the close of July, the EPA estimates 10.69 billion RINs have been generated so far this year, with 380.17 million retired, 359 million locked and available, and 10.22 billion unlocked and available.
