EPA seeks comments on flex fuel provisions of REGS rule

On Dec. 2, the U.S. EPA issued a notice of data availability (NODA) that will make additional data available for comment on the ethanol flex fuel (EFF) provisions of its proposed Renewables Enhancement and Growth Support rule.

According to the EPA, the data is contained in a report that was prepared for the agency by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The report compared test data on the volatility of higher-level ethanol blends to that estimated by the EFF volatility compliance tool proposed in the REGS rule. A notice posted by the EPA states that the NODA requests comments on the report and how the proposed EFF volatility compliance tool might be modified to better estimated the effect of natural gasoline on the volatility of ethanol fuel blends.

A full copy of the report can be downloaded from the EPA website. Comments can be filed electronically at www.regulations.gov under Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2016-0041. A PDF of the proposed REGS rule, which spans more than a 150 pages, can be downloaded from the Federal Register website
