The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for February, reporting 1.18 billion RINs were generated during the month, including nearly 14.42 million cellulosic RINs.

According to the EPA, approximately 14.42 million D3 cellulosic RINs were generated during the month, bringing the net total for the first two months of the year to 14.76 million. So far this year, 556,953 D3 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 8.96 million generated for renewable compressed natural gas and 6.64 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas. More than 14.52 million D3 RINs have been generated domestically, with 1.63 million generated by importers. No D7 renewable diesel RINs have been generated so far this year.

Nearly 3.52 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in February, bringing the net total for the first two months of the year to 8.04 million. Nearly 4.18 million were generated for ethanol, with 2.52 million generated for naptha, 423,549 generated for heating oil, and 914,059 generated for nonester renewable diesel. All 8.04 million D5 RINs generated so far this year have been generated domestically.

More than 1.18 billion D6 RINs were generated in February, bringing the net total for the first two months of the year to 2.43 billion. Most, 2.38 billion, were generated for ethanol, with 20,919 generated for biodiesel, and 48.84 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. Nearly 2.38 billion D6 RINs were generated domestically, with 1.75 million generated by importers and 48.84 million generated by foreign entities.

Nearly 200.94 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in February, bringing the net total for the first two months of the year to 393.31 million. Most, 330.65 million, were generated for biodiesel, with 62.81 million generated for nonester renewable diesel and 76,051 generated for renewable jet fuel. To date, 309.69 D4 RINs have been generated by domestic producers, with 51.74 million generated by importers and 32.11 million generated by foreign entities.

As of the close of February, the EPA estimates 2.84 billion RINs have been generated so far this year, including 87.11 million that have been retired. An estimated 143.92 million RINs are locked and available, with 2.61 billion unlocked and available.
