Verenium to expand test site

In its second-quarter financial reports, Cambridge, Mass.-based Verenium Corp., formed by a merger between Diversa Corp. and Celunol Corp., announced an expansion of its demonstration-scale cellulosic ethanol plant and research facility in Jennings, La. Subsequently, the scheduled completion date has been pushed back until early next year. The site will be used to test various enzyme cocktails and processing technologies dedicated primarily to the conversion of sugarcane waste. The facility will also be used to train future commercial-scale plant operators.
