Lux Research named Fulcrum BioEnergy to its top 10 list of innovative companies from 2015. Fulcrum was the only alternative fuels company named to the list.

According to Lux Research, biojet and renewable diesel are going to be major plays in 2016, and Fulcrum is well positioned to make both fuels from municipal solid waste (MSW). Lux also indicated the company has strong partnerships along its entire value chain and noted Fulcrum is the only Fischer-Tropsch biojet process developer with proven production at some scale.

In September 2014, the USDA awarded Fulcrum Sierra Biofuels a $105 million loan guarantee under the Biorefinery Assistance Program to support the development of an 11 MMgy biorefinery, known as the Sierra Biofuels Plant. The $266 million project is being developed near Reno, Nevada.

In May, Fulcrum awarded Abengoa a $200 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the construction of the Sierra Biofuels Plant.  In July, Vecoplan announced it had executed a contract to design, engineer, install and commission a state-of-the-art MSW feedstock processing system for the project.
