The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for April, reporting that more than 1.44 billion RINs were generated during the month, including nearly 7.82 cellulosic RINs.

Approximately 7.82 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINS were generated during the month, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to 27.55 million. So far this year, 574,922 D3 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 13.47 million generated for renewable compressed natural gas and 13.58 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas. To date, all D3 RINs have been generated by domestic producers. No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs have been generated so far this year.

Nearly 15.35 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of 2015 to 30.02 million. Most D5 RINs, 18.67 million, have been generated for ethanol, with 8.01 million generated for naptha, 267,598 generated for heating oil and 3.36 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. More than 19.33 million D5 RINs have been generated by domestic producers, with 10.7 million generated by importers.

Nearly 1.2 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to 4.76 billion. The majority, 4.62 billion, were generated for ethanol, with 18.98 million generated for biodiesel and 122.6 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. So far this year, 4.62 billion D6 RINS have been generated by domestic producers, with 19.88 million generated by importers and 122.6 million generated by foreign entities.

Nearly 221.77 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to 694.03 million. More than 527.6 million D6 RINs have been generated for biodiesel, with 166.78 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. More than 579.75 million D6 RINs have been generated by domestic producers, with 51.4 million generated by importers and 63.25 generated by foreign entities.

The U.S. EPA data currently indicates nearly 5.52 billion RINs have been generated so far this year, with 182.8 million retired, 205.21 million locked and available, and 5.13 billion unlocked and available.
