The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation for July, reporting that nearly 1.27 billion RINs were generated during the month. Cellulosic RINs were among those generated in July.

According to the EPA, 4,156 D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in July, along with 1,248 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs. During the first seven months of the year, 76,910 D3 RINS were generated, including 32,742 for ethanol and 44,168 for renewable gasoline. During the same time period 12,336 D7 RINs were generated, including 8,859 for cellulosic diesel and 3,811 for cellulosic heating fuel. All D3 RINS were generated by domestic producers, with 8,859 D7 RINs generated by domestic producers and 3,811 generated by importers.

Nearly 15.41 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in July, bringing the total for the first seven months of the year to approximately 110.45 million. That volume includes 72.73 million for ethanol, 18.82 million for biogas, 9.92 million for naptha, and 9.07 million for renewable diesel. More than 52.81 million D5 RINs have been generated by domestic producers this year, with the remaining 57.72 million generated by importers.

More than 1.22 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in July, bringing the year-to-date total to more than 8.3 billion. About 8.12 billion D6 RINs have been generated for ethanol so far this year, with 24.99 million generated for biodiesel and 162.99 generated for renewable diesel. Most, 8.12 billion, were generated by domestic producers, with 23.17 million generated by importers and 162.99 million generated by foreign producers.

More than 281.06 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in July, bringing the total for the first seven months of the year to 1.49 billion. Most, 1.08 billion were generated for biodiesel, with 406.38 million generated for renewable diesel. Approximately 1.16 billion D4 RINs have been generated by domestic producers, with 87.28 million generated by importers and 241.44 million generated by foreign producers.

The EPA estimates that nearly 9.91 billion RINs were generated during the first seven months of the year. Approximately 212.44 million of those RINs have been retired with 351.63 million locked and available and 9.34 billion unlocked and available.
