USDA awards advanced biofuel payments to pellet, biogas producers

By Erin Voegele | March 10, 2014

On March 6, USDA Rural Development announced nearly $60 million in payments to 195 biofuel producers under the Advanced Biofuel Payment Program, which was established by the 2008 Farm Bill and reauthorized in the recently signed 2014 Farm Bill.

The program provides payments to eligible produces based on the amount of advanced biofuels produced from feedstocks other than corn kernel starch. In addition to liquid fuels, such as ethanol, biodiesel and renewable gasoline and diesel, the program also awards payments to eligible produces of biogas and pellets.

“These payments represent the Obama Administration’s commitment to support an ‘all-of-the-above’ energy strategy and to help create jobs,” said Agriculture Deputy Under Secretary Doug O’Brien. “Producing advanced biofuels is a major component of the effort to take control of America’s energy future by developing domestic, renewable energy sources.”
